Veal is the meat of young, usually male, calves that are by-products of the dairy industry. Dairy cows must calve before they begin to give milk. Calves that aren’t used in the dairy herds are used in today’s veal industry.
Although Veal may come from any calf under the age of nine months, most comes from calves slaughtered when they are eight to sixteen weeks old. Veal’s mild flavour and low fat content makes it a popular meat, especially among those looking for an alternative to beef. its delicate flavour is complimented by classic and modern sauces.
Like beef, veal is a major source of protein as well as niacin, zinc, and b vitamins. Veal has less marbling than beef. When trimmed of any visible fat, veal is lower in fat and calories than comparable beef cuts, and it is leaner than many cuts of pork and poultry.

Free Range Meats
We also stock a small selection of free range meats. rangatikei free range chicken and waitoa free range chicken is readilly availble along with free range eggs. some of our stores stock “freedom farms” pork and bacon. we are also able to get “harmony” organic beef and lamb if you order in advance.
Biltong and Drywoers
We are proud stockist of our own homemade biltong and drywores.biltong and drywores are a traditional south african high protein snack food. biltong is normally a beef product produced from leg muscle meat. it is silced approximately one centremeter thick then marinated over night in our own secret biltong mix and then hung in a specially designed drying room for about two days. from there the meat has dried out enough to by sliced thin and eaten. delicious!
Drywoers is a dried sausage that starts out as a traditional south african fresh sausage called boerwors. it also is hung and dried the same way as biltong and is just as delicious. both the biltong and the drywoers are avilable in three different flavourds and is a wonderful snack or finger food.
